Queer Palm Lab 

The Queer Palm launched The Queer Palm Lab in 2023 with the support of our special godfather for this first class, the belgian director Lukas Dhont (Girl, Close). The Queer Palm Lab is a yearly mentoring program and a residency for 5 future filmmakers coming from all around the world.

During the first year, from September 2024 to May 2025, the Queer Palm Lab teamprovides guidance for each new step of development for the selected 5 projects. A network of selected professionals is built for the 5 filmmakers in order to highlight their projects and create a community of professionals and cinephiles around these films in the making. The residency took place in Morelia (Mexico) during and in partnership with the international festival of Morelia.

The call for entries for the second Queer Palm Lab Class (2024-2025) is now open and we are proud to announce that our special « godmother » for this second class is the Scottish director Charlotte Wells. Her first feature, the worldy acclamed Aftersun with Paul Mescal, was presented in the Critic’s week competition in Cannes in 2022.

 First round of project selections by the Queer Palm Lab reading committee.

 Individual Interviews
 Second round of project selection with one-to-one interviews for 15 selected projects.

Selections Announcements
 Announcement of the final 5 projects selected for the Queer Palm Lab 2025-2026 Class.

 September 2025 – May 2026
Mentoring
 Beginning of the mentoring with a personalised program depending on the advancement of each selected project, including Zoom meetings, production of content and 15 days residency in Mexico (October 2025 – might change).

 May 2026
Presentation at the Cannes Festival 2026
 At the end of the year of mentoring, the 5 future movie makers will be invited to pitch their project et the « Queer Market » meeting, that the Queer Palm team hosts every year in Cannes during the film festival.

Appointments on site with industry professionals, producers and distributors, during the festival.

Registration Fees

To be included in the Queer Palm Lab selection, you will be asked to pay 70 € at the time of registration. You can pay securely online using the form.
